Graduate certificate in Project Management
This certificate program aims to equip students with a set of tools that will allow them to achieve Project Management Institute (PMI) standards in the project management area, to successfully manage resources, and to analyze, evaluate, and improve complex projects. Specifically, the ability to:
• identify operations problems and implement solutions for improved
strategic competitiveness,
• make sound decisions, plan, and control the key resources of an
organization - money and people,
• critically analyze, evaluate, improve, or adapt existing technical
and/or managerial systems, and
• organize and manage complex projects.
The curriculum for the Certificate to be issued by the Business & Information TechnologyDepartment includes one key course from IST and three complementary courses from the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) Department. Students who are engineers would normally seek the Certificate through the EMSE Department, where all four courses would be within that department.
A Project Management Graduate Certificate has been offered by EMSE for some time. Students who are not engineers may now seek a Project Management Graduate Certificate through IST which draws upon EMSE courses for the bulk of the Certificate.
The Project Management Certificate Program consists of four courses listed on the reverse, which are delivered as part of regular master’s degree programs in IST and EMSE. Students will be responsible for prerequisite knowledge as determined by course instructors. With the approval of the department, appropriate courses may be substituted for a certificate course if that course is not available.(downloadable Fact Sheet)
